Sentencing and Criminal Justice Committee

The purpose of the Sentencing and Criminal Justice Committee is to study criminal penalties and sentencing statutes and patterns in Ohio, recommend statutory change, and review national developments and trends on matters of sentencing. The committee is also poised to respond and make recommendations regarding more broad areas, including probation, risk assessment, release programs, specialized dockets, community corrections, and building, as well as improving relationships and coordinating the work of the Commission with other justice partners - both state and federal.

Committee Chair: Judge Spanagel, Parma Municipal Court

Current Project Information

The committee expects to review the work of the Recodification Committee once complete. The committee will also review calendar year 2016 Ohio Supreme Court decisions pertaining to sentencing for potential action by the Commission (as noted in the Jan. 3, 2017 edition of The Legislative and Judicial Brief).
