Who should attend?

Individuals interested in serving as guardian ad litem must complete a six hour pre-service training course which meets the minimum requirements set under the education requirement of Superintendence Rule 48. Certain GAL pre-service courses taken before the rule’s effective date of March 1, 2009 satisfy this requirement (see FAQ #9 for a list of qualifying courses).

Attendance at a GAL pre-service course gives the Judicial College permission to share attendees’ information with their local area courts for use in appointing GALs. Individuals who have already attended a pre-service course or who are not interested in serving as guardians ad litem should not attend.

Individuals interested in serving as guardian ad litem should first contact their local court before registering with the Ohio Guardian ad Litem Education Program Pre-Service course to determine the court’s specific qualifications for guardians ad litem to be added to the appointment list.

Is there a cost for this course?

This course is available free of charge for a limited time.

Is this course approved for CLE?

The Judicial College requests CLE and CEU (for Social Workers only) for all GAL courses. Please refer to the course announcements for specific information.

To cancel your registration, login to OhioCourtEDU, search for your registered course and select "unregister." If you cannot attend the course, you MUST notify us three days prior to the course. Late cancellations and “no shows” are still costs incurred by the Supreme Court and will cause other GALs to be closed out due to space limitations.
