(Feb. 5, 2009) In a 7-0 decision announced today, the Supreme Court of Ohio indefinitely suspended the license of Barberton attorney Douglas B. Maher for multiple acts of professional misconduct in his dealings with three different clients.

The court adopted findings by the Board of Commissioners on Grievances & Discipline that, among other rule violations, Maher neglected legal matters entrusted to him by clients; made multiple false statements and fraudulent representations to his clients and others to conceal his neglect; repeatedly failed to respond to communications from his clients, courts, other attorneys and other parties; failed to promptly return case files and unearned legal fees when requested by clients; failed to maintain malpractice insurance or to notify clients that he lacked such coverage; and gave false testimony before a hearing panel in a prior disciplinary action based on his neglect of two other clients’ cases.
