Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon L. Kennedy addressed members of the Tiffin Rotary Club at the club's meeting on March 5, 2014.

She spoke to them about the Rotary Four-Way test and its application to the law and to the founding of America.

"Fairness in law really began with the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution: ‘All men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among them are life liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,'" Justice Kennedy said.

She went on to talk about how that responsibility is played out in the judicial system.

"It is only when judges keep their oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Ohio, and the laws of this state, that fairness is achieved," she said.

Justice Kennedy is serving her first term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy served on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division from 1999 to 2012. Justice Kennedy served as the administrative judge there from 2005 until December 2012. Justice Kennedy began her career in the justice system as a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
