Justice Kennedy Delivers Keynote Remarks at Hilliard Rotary
June 18, 2015Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon L. Kennedy paid a visit to the Hilliard Rotary Club at the Thursday, June 18, 2015, meeting.
Focusing on the Rotarian code of ethics known as the Four-Way Test, Justice Kennedy pointed out that the principles outlined in the test are reminiscent of what the founding fathers were thinking about and debating on the floor of Independence Hall when founding this republic.
"I am certain that as the founding fathers sat in that room crafting that document, they envisioned a system that would not only be beneficial and fair to all concerned, but would also build goodwill and better friendships," she said.
Justice Kennedy attested to these concepts playing out in her personal experience when as a young girl, her father encouraged her to build her own American dream.
"He told me you can do whatever you want to do. Be whatever you want to be. As long as you decide and commit, work hard, and have fortitude."
Justice Kennedy is serving her second term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy served on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division from 1999 to 2012. She served as the administrative judge there from 2005 until December 2012. Justice Kennedy began her career in the justice system as a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
