Justice Kennedy Featured on Blog Talk Radio Show "Afternoons with Tracey and Friends"
February 21, 2014

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon L. Kennedy participated as a guest on the blog talk radio show “Afternoons with Tracey and Friends” on Friday, February 21, 2014.

Justice Kennedy discussed the structure of the Ohio judicial system, among other things, with show host Tracey Winbush. In addition to describing the different court entities, including the lower level courts, the courts of appeals and the Supreme Court, Kennedy recounted the number of cases that go through each level.

She talked about the jurisdictional limitations of all areas in the judicial structure and gave insight into the work of serving on Ohio's highest court.

When asked to describe a “day in the life”, she spoke about the work that goes into preparing for conference days: reading briefs, jurisdictional and non-jurisdictional appeals, and new opinions as they are drafted.

“Approximately 2,000 cases make their way through the Supreme Court system each year,” Justice Kennedy said.

Justice Kennedy is serving her first term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy served on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division from 1999 to 2012. Justice Kennedy served as the administrative judge there from 2005 until December 2012. Justice Kennedy began her career in the justice system as a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
