Justice Sharon L. Kennedy spoke about founding principles as she gave the keynote remarks at the Newark Rotary Club luncheon on Tuesday, May 28 at the Metropolitan Hotel.  Justice Kennedy also talked about the Four-Way Test used by Rotarians world-wide as a moral code.

"The principles of the Rotary Four Way Test are the very principles that help found this great country in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights, and the application of the rule of law," Justice Kennedy said.

"If all of us could learn and live our lives with the guiding principles of the Rotarian Code of Ethics, if we used truth to advance fairness for all people it would build goodwill and better friendships and in the end be beneficial for all of mankind," Justice Kennedy added.

Justice Kennedy also talked about the founding of America in her remarks to the Rotary club members. She took questions from the audience for half an hour, answering questions about work of the court, Justice Kennedy's personal background, and how she became the 154th Ohio Supreme Court justice.

Justice Kennedy is serving her first term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy served on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division from 1999 to 2012. Justice Kennedy served as the administrative judge there from 2005 until December 2012. Justice Kennedy began her career in the justice system as a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
