Justice Kennedy Speaks to Boy Scout Troop
January 26, 2015

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon L. Kennedy attended a local meeting of Boy Scout Troop 941 held on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in West Chester Township.

Justice Kennedy spoke to troop members about Ohio's judicial system and its function in relation to the legislative and executive branches of government. She also talked to them about their rights and responsibilities within that system, saying they as citizens have the power to control the creation of law.

She went on to discuss the ways in which the U.S. Constitution and the Ohio Constitution provide checks and balances, and explained that her job as a justice is to uphold the law as it has been written by Ohioans.

Justice Kennedy is serving her second term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy served on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division from 1999 to 2012. She served as the administrative judge there from 2005 until December 2012. Justice Kennedy began her career in the justice system as a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
