Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon L. Kennedy addressed members of the 2017 Leadership Muskingum Class during the group's visit to the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center on May 3, 2017. The visit was part of Leadership Muskingum's annual government day session.

Kennedy provided Leadership members with an overview of Ohio's judicial system and its role in maintaining balance between the legislative and executive branches of government.

During her discussion, Kennedy described leadership as a call to action, which included engaging with government on all levels. Not only do citizens exert influence by choosing their legislative representatives, Kennedy said, but also by educating themselves on judicial candidates and voting in judicial elections.

Kennedy also responded to questions regarding her personal career path and the journey that brought her to the state's highest court.

Justice Kennedy is serving her second term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, she served on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division from 1999 to 2012. She served as the administrative judge there from 2005 until December 2012. Justice Kennedy began her career in the justice system as a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
