Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon L. Kennedy spoke to members of the Olentangy Rotary Club at their meeting on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

She spoke to the group about the parallels found between the Rotarian code of ethics—known as the Four-Way Test—and the principles that guided America's founding fathers as they established a new nation and government.

Among the tenets of the Four-Way Test is an emphasis on fairness, and Justice Kennedy expounded on this theme.

"Fairness in law really began with the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution: ‘All men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among them are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,'" Justice Kennedy said.

Justice Kennedy is serving her second term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Kennedy served on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division from 1999 to 2012. She served as the administrative judge there from 2005 until December 2012. Justice Kennedy began her career in the justice system as a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
