The Supreme Court of Ohio will take part in this year’s Ohio Open Doors after-hours tour program on September 10 and September 12. The two evening tours are part of the Ohio History Connection’s annual event featuring tours of historic buildings and fascinating places across the state.

The Supreme Court of Ohio is housed in the iconic and inspirational Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center which was completed in 1933 and served as the Ohio Departments of State Building for nearly 70 years. The building, which is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, was renovated and repurposed in 2004 as the “forever home” and headquarters of Ohio’s judiciary.

Since its renovation 20 years ago, visitors have come away from their tour of the Moyer Center saying, “What an unexpected delight!” The awe-inspiring interior features a convergence of Art-Deco styling and Beaux-Arts architecture, which gives the building the look and feel of a palace with museum quality finishes. The artwork and fixtures in the Grand Concourse and Courtroom make it a one-of-a-kind Ohio landmark and easily one of the most photographed, inspirational, and historic buildings in the state.

Advance online registration is requested for admission to the Moyer Center, and tour flights are limited to 70 visitors per night. Admission to all Ohio Open Doors events is free and a list of the statewide events and activities is available at www.ohiohistory.org/opendoors.

The Ohio History Connection created Ohio Open Doors in 2016 to promote and inspire pride in Ohio’s heritage and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act. This is the first Open Doors event for the Supreme Court of Ohio.
