Acting Judges
When a judge of county or municipal court is temporarily absent, under certain conditions, the judge may appoint a substitute who is called an Acting Judge. An acting judge may be a judge or retired judge or an Ohio licensed attorney who has been engaged in the practice of law in Ohio for a total of six years preceding the appointment and who lives in the territory of the court or a contiguous territory.
